STEAM DREAM INITIATIVE
STEAM DREAM INITIATIVE
STEAM DREAM Initiative
The STEAM education partnership between UChicago STEM Education at the University of Chicago and Bright Star Community Outreach in Bronzeville. The Steam Dream Initiative will benefit Teachers and Students of Greater Bronzeville.
The STEAM DREAM Initiative will support training for and implementing three respected programs that develop important STEM skills. The Engineering is Elementary (EiE) and FUSE Studio programs develop students’ understanding of engineering processes and their ability to apply scientific knowledge and critical thinking skills to particular challenges. The Initiative will implement EiE with PreK–Grade 5 and FUSE Studio with Grades 6–8 students. Students will also take part in Lego Robotics kits with Grades 1–8 students to develop their programming and computational thinking skills. We will infuse an arts element into the programming where appropriate to provide integrated opportunities for students’ creative expression.
High-quality school-day STEAM programming at the TURN Center for all students in all grades at Carter Woodson Elementary School during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years, including:
Use of one Engineering is Elementary module in each Grade PK - 4 classroom each school year and two EiE modules in Grade 5.
Use of FUSE Studio in Grades 6-8 at least four times/month for the duration of each school year.
Afterschool programming for grades K-8 will be provided in the future. Please stay tuned for registration.
